A streamline is a line which smoothly connects velocity vectors at an instant of time.

The direction of a streamline and a velocity vector match at an arbitrary point of the streamline.
Streamlines, streaklines, and pathlines are presented in the same way for illustrating steady-state flows, whereas each is presented in its own way for transient flows.
