World Human Powered Speed Challenge: Aerodynamic analyses of a bicycle that challenges the record for the world’s fastest land speed

April 2016/ -- World Human Powered Speed Challenge*1 is held every September in Nevada, USA. This championship is aimed to break the human-powered land speed record by bicycle. A Japanese project team*2 has been established to take a part in the challenge using Japanese technology. SC/Tetra has been used to perform aerodynamic analyses, which are critical for Team Japan bicycle to achieve the fastest speed.

*1 Brief details of World Human Powered Speed Challenge

- Site: Route 306, Nevada, USA
- Rules: Accelerate while driving through 8 km long straight route, reaching the maximum speed for the final 200 m. Bicycles are powered by human only.
- Participants: 14 teams, 6 nations
Universities such as Delft University of Technology from the Netherlands and University of Toronto from Canada as well as enterprises have participated in the challenge. This is the first time for a Japanese team to take a part.
