The scSTREAM Pre-processor is used to configure the data for calculation. It is used to create shapes, generate meshes, and define boundary conditions and material properties. scSTREAM's Pre-processor provides an easy-to-understand and use graphical user interface (GUI).
An interactive wizard is used to specify analysis parameters. The wizard enables the user to specify the set of parameters that will be varied and the values that will be used. scSTEAM can also automatically set recommended conditions by specifying the target object.
scSTREAM can import 3D CAD (e.g. Palasolid(X_T), STEP(.stp), STL, DXF and IDF) data, used in electronic circuit board design to define model geometry. The scSTREAM pre-processor contains useful functions such as simplification of complicated geometries, batch deletion by size, and click-designated deletion (useful for complex CAD data with either too few or too many parts).
Multiblock, Connected Block, and Automated Mesh Generation
The stuctured grid generator is simple and easy to use. scSTREAM can provide automatic mesh generation, which is useful for complex geometries. The multiblock function offers the capability to concentrate grid resolution in a particular area. Multiblock is used to around the surrounding buildings in a wind aerodynamics model or around small electronic devices. Locally controlling mesh density reduces the memory necessary for the calculation and reduces computation time while maintaining high accuracy. Connected block permits connecting groups of multiblocks together. This is useful when meshing objects that are very close to each other.
Geometry creation in scSTREAM includes standard modeling tools such as cuboids and cylinders in addition to importing CAD data. A Sketch function can be used to create geometries on a drawing image. Moreover, special parts such as cooling fins for electronic equipment, and fans, piping, or anemostats for air conditioning systems can be accomodated in scSTREAM. Parts repeatedly used can be registered to the library.
scSTREAM is general-purpose thermal fluid analysis software that is capable of simulating a variety of physical phenomena. Multi-purpose CFD software can be complicated and difficult to use. To help alleviate the complexity, scSTREAM incorporates a navigation system consisting of well-organized set-up wizards and dialog boxes to guide the user through all the set-up functions, from basic features to advanced settings. This helps the user eliminate the possibility of omitting critical data inputs and makes the software more user friendly for first time users.
The scSTREAM Pre-processor features a macro function. The macro function can be used to construct a special menu to automate a series of repeated operations.
Depending on the complexity of the geometry, the mesh may not be generated uniformly or as wanted using the automatic mesh generation functions. To prevent non-uniform mesh generation and false recognition of the original geometry, the geometry can be converted into staircase patterned shapes prior to mesh generation. This function enables the user to define exact mesh locations and maintain proper surface areas and volumes after meshing.
