Software Cradle is to hold User Conference 2016.

For the speaker of the special lecture, we invite Professor Kazuyoshi Miyagawa from Waseda University (Department of Applied Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering, School of Fundamental Science and Engineering, Faculty of Science and Engineering), the pioneer of turbomachinery researches and investigations. There will also be presentations from our users on their case studies, as well as introductory notes on our new product and new software functions, and planned development schedule.

Followed by the success of the previous year, we will hold technical forum presented by our engineers in Track C hall in both Tokyo and Osaka satellite venues. Presentations will include case study example of our product, introductory guide for resources needed to process calculations using our products, and tips on how to use Software Cradle Postprocessor effectively.

Progress of Performance and Reliability Evaluation for Turbomachinery System Based on Simulation Technologies
The progress of simulation technologies enables to evaluate not only the performance and reliability of a turbomachinery itself but also these of turbomachinery system. The progress of evaluation technologies for a turbomachinery system such as performance evaluation, rotor dynamics stability of a turbo pump system and entire simulation including an engine and a turbocharger will be presented in this lecture.

Computational Aerodynamics Designing of Two-man Bobsleigh by using Optimus for Cradle

This section introduces a method of computational aerodynamics designing for a two-man bobsleigh. The method employs SC/Tetra and “Optimus for Cradle” newly released for Version 13. An initial model of the “Shitamachi Bobsleigh” project is used for the bobsleigh geometry of the design object. The project is established mainly by the small local factories in the Ota district of Tokyo.

Application of Air Flow Simulation for Small Laser Printers

In order to sustain functions and performance of laser printers, temperature of each heat-emitting component devised within must be maintained below certain degree. Due to advanced device miniaturization and high-speed printing capability in recent years, the importance of air flow cooling has been heightened, and the level of difficulty for design implementation has been increased. This presentation will illustrate a case study of applying SC/Tetra for air flow design of small laser printers.

Adaptive Thermal Comfort: An Extended Approach for Conditioned Indoor Environment using Computational Fluid Dynamics

With the effective adaptation of adaptive comfort standard for set point temperature in conditioned spaces, potentially 20% of energy consumption can be reduced Parallelly, this article highlights the adoption of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to investigate fluid flow patterns & behavior of thermal comfort indices in conditioned indoor environment. CFD, as the most sophisticated airflow modelling method, can simultaneously predict airflow and heat transfer inside buildings, thereby keeping the emphasis of verification and validation of the study extensively dependent on the outputs from CFD analysis.

Simulation Examples of Interaction between scSTREAM and an Optimization Tool

Our department is in charge of performing thermal analysis tasks assigned from a division of Panasonic AIS Company and reporting the results to the assigner. Reports must demonstrate the followings: 1) Conformity between test results, and 2) maximization of thermal management effects. This presentation will illustrate a case study of applying an optimization tool, which was introduced last year in order to achieve 2).

In recent years, there has been an increase in demands for demonstrating simulations results more clearly, such as through applying VR. This presentation introduces means to construct 3D virtual experience system, which enables users to see airflow and temperature distribution in real life, through collaborating with MR (mixed reality) technologies that creates realistic 3D-CG layer on actual world.

Speedup of scSTREAM: History & Future

The development of scSTREAM over three decades reflect the milestones of constant transitions in hardware and software environment. This presentation revisits previous scSTREAM development until now, such as vector expansion and parallelization, and illustrates its outcome, which has contributed in high speed processing capability of V13. Further improvement for ongoing versions will also be noted.

Introducing scFLOW V13


An unstructured mesh solver scFLOW was introduced at Software Cradle User Conference 2015, which was under development at that time. This year, Software Cradle introduces scFLOW V13, which is to be officially released. The presentation will mainly illustrate GUI and task scenarios of preprocessor through demonstration. Examples of accuracy evaluations and details on calculation speed of solver will also be explained.

Example of Multi-Phase Flow Analyses of Air and Molten Metal using scSTREAM

Thermal analyses of multi-phase flows are often performed in steelmaking process. It is difficult to validate thermal analysis results during operation due to the wide temperature difference between fluids such as water and atmosphere. This presentation will illustrate an analysis case study, which focused on flow of molten metal.

Flow and Thermal Analysis of Cooling and Exhaust Systems of a Motorcycle using SC/Tetra

Current study is focused on separately analyzing cooling and exhaust systems. Initial filling of coolant jacket is simulated by Volume of Fluid method to check air trapping in the coolant jacket. A closed loop flow simulation resulted in flow delivered and power consumed by the coolant pump. Conjugate Heat Transfer analysis is done to achieve the temperature distribution in the engine components. In other part, the complete exhaust system is considered for flow and thermal analysis. The pressure drop in exhaust system and temperature distribution in system parts are obtained.

Case Study of Applying Simulation in Production Process of Ceramic Sanitary Ware

Simulation techniques have been developed to evaluate the efficiency of drying process. The productivity of this particular process in the production of ceramic sanitary ware depends largely on product geometry and process conditions. Simulations enabled understanding internal drying conditions, assessing the relationship between internal conditions and defect occurrence, and evaluating the effectiveness of defect countermeasures.

Future Mobility Aerodynamic Design with SC/Tetra

Intelligent Mobility Laboratory of Kurume Institute of Technology has been applying SC/Tetra and wind tunnel experiments for their research on next-generation airplane design and vehicle aero devices, which are intended to motivate young people to pursue engineering. This presentation introduces cases studies from their research, highly operable SC/Tetra features and effectiveness of comparative evaluation between wind tunnel experiments.
